Last week, visuals of anxious depositors lining up outside branches of Mumbai-based New India Cooperative Bank went viral on social media. This, after RBI imposed curbs on withdrawal and loans based on the bank’s poor financial health. Meanwhile, on Sunday accused and bank’s branch manager Hitesh Mehta and Dharmesh Paun were sent to police custody till 21 February. The duo was presented before the court following their arrests by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police.
Following the account holders’ panic, an alleged scam worth Rs 122 crore rupees at the bank has come to light.
