Who Is Amritpal Singh and How Did He Become The Head of ‘Waris Punjab De’?

On Thursday, hundreds of Radical Khalistan sympathizers stormed Ajnala police station toting guns and wielding long swords, to protest against the arrest of one of their associates. The protest started at 11 in Amritsar as was declared by Amritpal Singh, the leader of the pack of protestors. These protestors brandishing their swords laid a sort of siege to the police station. Before entering the police station, they clashed with the policemen deployed to control the law and order situation. The police had erected barricades to stop the crowd. However, the radical protestors clashed with the police, broke down the barriers and ambushed the police station. Before reaching Ajnala, they staged a protest in the middle of the road at Dhilwan toll plaza in Kapurthala district when they were stopped by police from march towards Amritsar. But police later allowed them to continue with their march towards the Ajnala police station. Their protest led to a traffic jam on the Amritsar-Delhi national highway for some time. The scale of protests and the radical Khalistani slogans raised have invoked fears of upsurge of separatist movement. Let’s talk about who is Amrit Pal Singh and his sudden rise to fame?
