Why India Can’t Stop Trading with China What Does The Data Say EP74

“The slugfest continues between political parties over China. The most recent provocation comes when Chines forces tried to barge into India in Arunachal Pradesh earlier this month. The ruling party disallowed any discussion on this issue in the Lok Sabha. The opposition parties kept the pressure on the government both inside and outside the parliament. One point where, irrespective of who is in opposition or who is in the government, is that India’s trade with China keeps increasing year after year. Not only the trade increases, our trade deficit with China also keeps ballooning. All this is despite that China reinforces the fact that it is a hostile neighbor. So, is it possible to reduce the trade with China? In this episode, I bring to you the Indo-China trade data. This data goes against our belief that China is just a supplier of cheap and poor-quality goods. The reality is that China today is our largest supplier and is on top of the list with 17.3% contribution. No country is comes even a close second; the USA at second place contributes just 7.17% to our imports. In addition, China is not a supplier of energy products such as Petroleum, Gas or coal. If we leave aside our energy imports, China’s contribution to our imports goes up to 27%. Our annual imports from China stood at $64.2 billion with a trade deficit of $45.7 Billion. Watch the full episode and you will be surprised to see how deeply India is dependent on China for all essentials such as Computers, Integrated Circuit chips, medicine compounds – the list is endless. Even if India wished to find alternate sources, there are none or the replacements will be cost prohibitive. Border disputes have to be delinked with trade. What we need is better diplomacy. Our defense forces will always be there to thwart such attempts. Please like and subscribe to this channel.
