“Will You Marry Her?” CJI Bobde Asks Man Accused of Raping Minor, Here’s Why It’s Problematic

On Monday, the Supreme Court of India stayed the arrest of a Man, a govt employee from Maharashtra who is accused of raping his relative when she was a minor. Not only this, the bench headed by CJI Bobde asked the man whether he would marry the girl. The court asked him whether he would marry the girl he raped. The accused who faces charges under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act had applied for bail and had sought protection from arrest. He is accused of raping the girl in 2014-15, when she was a minor and studying in class 9. In this video, Arti Ghargi tries to address the concerns surrounding the case.
