“Took Revenge From Traitor”: Congress Wins Gwalior Corporation After 57 Years Despite Scindia’s Exit

Gwalior

Though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 7 Municipal Corporations in Madhya Pradesh Civic Body polls, its victory was dampened by losses in key Gwalior and Jabalpur corporations. The Congress celebrated its wins in three of the 11 municipal corporations.

In a notable milestone, the grand old party won the Gwalior Municipal Corporation after 57 years and Jabalpur after 23 years.

The victory for Congress in Gwalior holds more importance as it comes after Jyotiraditya Scindia quit the GOP. Scindia, who hails from Gwalior’s royal family and maintains influence over the area, had joined BJP after toppling the Congress government in the state.

UP Congress, taking a veiled swipe at Scindia, wrote: “Gwalior today took revenge from the traitor.”

Congress’ communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh said “nothing has pleased me more than the Congress’ victory in Gwalior”.

Senior Congress leader and former MP CM Digvijay Singh wrote: “For the first time, Congress contested and won the election without Scindia ji. This is necessary for Congress and political critics to understand.”

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also wished the party on success in Gwalior and Jabalpur.

“Congratulations to all the leaders and workers of MP Congress for their commendable and courageous performance in the MP municipal elections. Despite the all-round attacks, money and power of the BJP government, your hard work has created history by hoisting the Congress flag after 57 years in Gwalior Municipal Corporation and after 23 years in Jabalpur,” she wrote.
