BJP’s Manoj Kumar Sonkar secured victory in the closely watched Chandigarh mayoral election, marking the debut of an electoral face-off between the INDIA bloc and BJP. He outpaced the AAP-Congress alliance’s candidate, Kuldeep Singh. Manoj Sonkar secured 16 votes, including the vote of ex-officio member Kirron Kher. The INDIA bloc candidate secured 12 votes after eight votes were declared invalid. Chaos erupted in the house as the AAP-Congress protested the decision to declare eight votes invalid, effectively leading to Sonkar’s victory.
