A significant fire erupted in a multi-storey shopping mall in Karachi on Saturday morning, resulting in the tragic loss of 11 lives, with numerous individuals feared to be trapped. The blaze originated on the fourth floor and quickly spread to other levels, creating substantial challenges for rescue operations due to dense smoke.
Rescue officials managed to evacuate approximately 46 people from the building, but concerns persist for additional trapped individuals. The rescue operation is hampered by challenging conditions, with seven of the injured reported to be in critical condition. Emergency services are transporting the injured to a nearby hospital.
To combat the fire, two snorkels, eight fire tenders, and two bowsers were deployed. The fire brigade attributed the outbreak to an electricity generator on the rooftop, resulting in the destruction of several shops and a suspension of electricity in the area.
