Maharashtra governor invites caretaker CM Fadnavis to form government

BJP state president said that the party has just received the letter from the governor. The BJP core committee will meet today to discuss the future course of action.

Mumbai| Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has written to Devendra Fadnavis the caretaker chief minister of the state to initiate the procedure of government formation considering the BJP is the single largest party. The BJP will be asked to prove its majority in the House. Governor’s invite came as the term of the 13th Legislative Assembly of the state ended on Saturday midnight.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Chandrakant Patil said that the party has just received the letter from the governor. The BJP core committee will meet today to discuss the future course of action.

Welcome Step: Sanjay Raut

Reacting to the governor’s invitation to the BJP, ShivSena MP Sanjay Raut said that it is a welcome step and ShivSena has taken the same stand. He said, “The single largest party should be invited first. They have 105 MLAs. BJP should not have waited, they should have claimed to form the government. They have done it in other states even when they did not have numbers.”

Hitting out at the BJP he said that Our leader is not a Businessman, we are not involved in trading of MLAs. He also informed that Uddhav Thackeray will be going to a hotel where MLAs are stationed. The MLAs want to know what their leader has decided in this situation and so Uddhav Thackeray will be meeting them.” Late last night even Aaditya Thackeray conducted a meeting with the MLAs.

Maharashtra Deadlock

Meanwhile, the deadlock over government formation continues as ShivSena is showing no signs of mending its ways with the BJP. On Friday, Devendra Fadnavis resigned as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The governor appointed him as the Caretaker Chief Minister.

Addressing a press conference, he alleged that the talks over government formation were stopped by ShivSena and not the BJP. He also said that there was no deal of rotational CM post between the two parties ahead of the Assembly elections. On the other hand, ShivSena Chief Uddhav Thackeray addressed a press conference and accused BJP of lying. He said that he had made the deal with BJP President Amit Shah and had conveyed him that it was the dream of ShivSena founder Balasaheb Thackeray to see ShivSena CM in Maharashtra.
