Politics over Surgical Strike dominates the poll campaign


1. Mumbai surprised everyone by registering a record high average turnout of 55.11% on Monday. This is the highest turnout in Mumbai in three decades after the 57.7% in 1989 and much higher than the 51.6% recorded in the 2014 general elections. All the six constituencies in the business capital of the country went to polls on Monday in the fourth phase of the parliamentary elections. 2. Congress general secretary and in-charge of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra received her first notice for her election campaign on Thursday for allegedly using children for an election rally. 3. India’s long wait for the United Nation’s ban on Masood Azhar, the leader of the Pakistan based terrorist group, Jaish-e-Muhammad, has finally ended. This came a day after China lifted its objection. China has repeatedly blocked sanctions on Masood Azhar. China had said that the issue of Azhar’s listing as a global terrorist would be “properly solved”. 4. The election commission of India is in a forgiving mood but only for PM Modi. In two days, the Election commission gave two clean chits to PM Modi over the complaints of poll code violations. 5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday took potshots at the Congress party and its leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, saying vote katua (cutting into votes) is the grand old party’s identity
