New Delhi: In Lok Sabha on December 13, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on India-China Faceoff in Arunachal Pradesh said that the incident happened on December 9 and no Indian troop died our army men were only injured. On December 11 the local commanders met and the matter was raised diplomatically, he added.

Rajnath Singh said, “On December 9 in the Yangtse area of the Tawang sector PLA troops encroached upon & attempted to change the status quo. This attempt was tackled by our troops in a determined manner. Our troops bravely stopped PLA from encroaching upon our territory&forced them to go back to their post.”

Defence Minister said, “This matter has also been taken up with China through diplomatic channels. I want to assure the House that our forces are committed to guarding our borders and ready to thwart any attempt that will be made to challenge it.”

Rajnath Singh said, “In this face-off, a few soldiers on both sides suffered injuries. I’d like to tell this House that none of our soldiers died or suffered any serious injury. With the timely intervention of Indian military commanders, PLA soldiers have retreated to their location.”

Opposition leaders staged a walkout soon after Rajnath Singh concluded his statement on the Tawang faceoff incident, in Lok Sabha.

India-China relations should be discussed in parliament, according to Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress National Committee. He also charged the Centre with hiding the facts on the ground in a series of tweets.

Jairam Ramesh, a member of parliament, stepped up his criticism of the administration’s position on the border dispute with China by claiming that the Congress party had tried unsuccessfully to notify the government of the matter.
