Bangalore: A former Janata Dal (Secular) leader who was about to join BJP, was found dead in Karnataka. Mallikarjuna Muthyala had injuries on his genitals.
A day before being murdered, he had attended an event where Chief Minister Basvaraj Bommai was present. Mallikarjuna Muthyala was from Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district. He was all set to join BJP.
His body was found at his shop, and cash was missing. This indicated robbery, the police said. Police further added that they haven’t ruled out other angles yet.

“My father used to sleep in the shop after a theft earlier. I am suspicious that this could be theft. They brutally murdered my father and made away with money and damaged a few documents that were inside the shop,” Muthyal’s son Venkatesh said.
Mallikarjuna Muthyala was also the honorary president of the Kalaburagi taluk’s Sedam Koli Kabbaliga group, the fourth most influential in north Karnataka after the Vokkaliga, Lingayat, and Kuruba clans.
“He owned an electronic shop. He slept in his shop on Monday night, and was found to have been murdered early Tuesday morning. His body was discovered with injuries in his genitals. He seems to be have been attacked with stones,” senior police officer Isha Pant said.
He was preparing to join BJP after he left JD(S). Locals say that he was attending BJP events after resigning from JD(S).
