Mumbai: Recently New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Finnland Prime Minister Sanna Marin held a joint press conference in Auckland. In the press conference, a journalist asked if they met because they are of the same age, to which Jacinda gave a fitting reply. On this Uddhav Thackeray Faction’s Shiv Sena Leader Aaditya Thackeray spoke in support of female leaders. Aaditya said that we must move beyond solace in age/gender and accept young/women being elected for leadership roles.

Taking to Twitter Aaditya Thackeray tweeted, “Yeah we’re meeting bec we’re Prime Ministers”. What a powerful reply by PMs @MarinSanna & @jacindaardern. Irrespective of the intent of the question, we must move beyond curiosity/ solace in age/ gender and accept young/ women being in elected leadership roles for nations!”

At the press conference the journalist questioned, “A lot of people will be wondering: ‘are you two meeting just because you’re similar in age and have got a lot of common stuff there – when you got into politics and stuff – or can Kiwis actually expect to see more deals between our two countries down the line…?”

Jacinda Ardern firmly said that if the media would ask similar questions to male leaders?

“My first question is I wonder whether or not anyone ever asked former US President Barack Obama and former New Zealand Prime Minister John Key if they met because they were of a similar age,” she said.

At the press meeting, she said agreed that more men are into politics around the world.

“Two women do not meet each other simply because of their gender,” she said.

“The focus of our conversation is what more we could do together in support of other women, in other countries who are facing dire circumstances,” Ardern said.

Mentioning Iran’s current situation she said, “So, I think that shows a sense of responsibility that we feel given there are so few female leaders to make sure that we use our voice on behalf of those that are experiencing such dire circumstances.”

To the journalist’s question, Marin replying with a giggle said, “We are meeting because we are prime ministers.”

“We have a lot of things in common, but also a lot of things where we can do much more together,” she added.

It is the first visit by a Finnish prime minister to New Zealand.
