India EAM Jaishankar: ‘If There Is An Attack, We Will Respond’

India EAM Jaishankar Speaks

He softened the claims of the US about effecting the ceasefire between India and Pakistan

India’s External Affairs Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar said that India and Pakistan had directly negotiated over the ceasing of cross-border fire. He also added that New Delhi had made itself clear before all countries and the US. This was about Islamabad and that it had to initiate the ceasefire with India.

Jaishankar said so whilst speaking before the Dutch broadcaster NOS. He softened the claims of the US about effecting the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. The ceasing of fire between the two nations was just three days after India carried out ‘Operation Sindoor’.

He was asked several questions. He was first asked whether Pakistan initiated the two nations’ ceasefire.

The EAM said, “Yes, we have a mechanism to talk to each other as a hotline. So, on the 10th of May, it was the Pakistani army which sent a message that they were ready to stop firing, and we responded accordingly.”

Jaishankar then spoke regarding the US and its role relating to the ceasefire.

He said, “Obviously, US Secretary of State Rubio and Vice President Vance had called up, Rubio had spoken to me, Vance had spoken to our Prime Minister, they had their view and they were talking to us and they were talking to Pakistani side as indeed were some other countries. There were some countries in the Gulf, there were some others as well.”

“That happens naturally, when we know when two countries are engaged in a conflict, it is natural that the countries in the world call up, sort of indicate their concern and what they can do in such a situation but the cessation of firing and military action was something which was negotiated directly between India and Pakistan,” he then said.

He added, “We made one thing very clear to everybody who spoke to us, not just the United States, but to everyone, saying look if the Pakistani want to stop the firing, they need to tell us, we need to hear it from them, their general has to call our general and say this and that is what happened.”

He also said, “And we have seen the results. So, our government has been very clear. Okay, I accept that may not be the policy of the earlier government. But, our government is very clear, if there is such an attack, there will be response….”

TMC Appoints Abhishek Banerjee For Anti-Terror Delegations

News Desk
TMC Appoints Abhishek Banerjee

This is just a day after Yusuf Pathan, the party’s Baharampur MP decided to opt out of the delegation

The Trinamool Congress has nominated their party general Abhishek Banerjee for a parliamentary all-party delegation for Operation Sindoor Global Outreach. This is just a day after Yusuf Pathan, the party’s Baharampur MP decided to opt out of the delegation.

The party announced the decision taken and posted on X. It said, “We are delighted to share that our Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has nominated Nat’l GS Abhishek Banerjee to represent Trinamool Congress in the all-party delegation for India’s global outreach against terrorism.”

The statement also said, “At a time when the world must unite to confront the growing threat of terrorism, Abhishek Banerjee’s inclusion brings both conviction and clarity to the table. His presence will not only reflect Bengal’s firm stand against terror but also strengthen India’s collective voice on the global stage.”

The Central government has selected 51 parliamentarians, political leaders and former ministers across various political lines. All of these have been chosen by the centre as part of seven delegations that will be sent out to travel to world capitals. India is trying to spread the news about its fight against terrorism in every way.

TMC Leaders Speak Out

The TMC was, however, disappointed that they were not told by the Centre before leaders for the delegation were picked.

Reports said that Kiren Rijiju had called the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee. This was for the appointment of someone for the delegations being sent.

“They (Centre) cannot decide the name. If they request the mother party, the party will decide the name. This is the custom; this is the system. We are with the Central government regarding external affairs policy, and we are fully supporting them,” said Mamata Banerjee.

After being selected for the delegations, Abhishek Banerjee also spoke. He said, “We stand with the Central Government on all decisions related to the national interest, combating terrorism, and safeguarding the country.”

He added, “However, the Central Government cannot decide who will represent the Trinamool Congress in the delegation. It is our party’s prerogative to choose our representatives. If you want one member, we can provide five—but the Central Government must demonstrate good intent.”

Earlier Defence Minister of India, Rajnath Singh had warned that Pakistan will try to rebuild the terror infrastructures.
