10 Important Facts About Budget 2026–27

Honestly speaking, I found nothing much in this Budget for a common citizen and therefore nothing much to interpret or analyse.

Here are 10 important facts about Budget 2026–27 in short:

1. Massive infrastructure spend: The government has increased capital expenditure to ₹12.2 lakh crore, a 9 percent rise, focused on roads, railways and ports.

2. New Income Tax Act: A new Income Tax Act 2025 was announced to replace the 1961 law. It will come into effect from April 1, 2026 with the stated aim of simplifying rules and procedures.

3. No slab changes: Despite the new Act, there are no changes in existing income tax slabs or rates for the current year.

4. Cheaper medicines: Basic customs duty has been fully waived on 17 cancer drugs and some medicines for rare diseases, making critical treatment more affordable.

5. Travel relief: Tax collected at source on foreign tour packages has been reduced to a flat 2 percent from the earlier range of 5 to 20 percent.

6. Semiconductor push: ISM 2.0 has been launched with an outlay of ₹1,000 crore to promote domestic chip design and manufacturing.

7. Fiscal discipline: The fiscal deficit target has been reduced to 4.3 percent of GDP, indicating a focus on controlling government debt.

8. Biopharma Shakti: A new ₹10,000 crore scheme aims to position India as a global hub for biologics and vaccine manufacturing.

9. High speed rail: Seven new high speed rail corridors have been announced to connect major growth cities.

10. Digital agriculture: Bharat VISTAAR, an AI based platform, has been launched to provide customised weather and crop advice to farmers in multiple Indian languages.

That is the Budget in brief.
