Sonia Gandhi To Meet Rajya Sabha MPs of Congress To Discuss Coronavirus Situation

This will be the first meeting of Congress MPs with Sonia Gandhi after the new Rajya Sabha members are sworn in on July 22. Sonia had earlier held discussions with party’s Lok Sabha MPs.

New Delhi | Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi will hold virtual meetings with the party’s Rajya Sabha MPs in a short while. According to news agency sources, this meeting has been called to discuss the current political situation in the country and the political crisis in Rajasthan. There will also be a discussion on the coronavirus situation and unemployment challenge.

This will be the first meeting of Congress MPs after the new Rajya Sabha members are sworn in on July 22. Sonia had earlier held discussions with the party’s Lok Sabha members on 11 July. There was a demand in that meeting to make Rahul Gandhi the party president again. The proposal was proposed by party leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Manikam Tagore. Earlier in June, in the Congress Working Committee meeting, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot raised the same demand.

Congress leaders want a full-time president

Sonia Gandhi’s one-year term as interim president is nearing completion. In view of the rebellion of two high-profile leaders of the party in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, a group of Congress leaders want a full-time president to be appointed as soon as possible. Some leaders are also writing a letter to the Congress Working Committee.
