Saifuddin Soz said, “Mehbooba Mufti should go to court against the governor’s move to dissolve the assembly at the behest of the Center.
Srinagar| The PDP, National Conference and the Congress, who have been trying to establish a new government in Jammu and Kashmir, have received a big blow from governor Satyapal Malik. Amidst the ongoing talks of a possible PDP-NC-Congress alliance to form a government, governor Satyapal Malik has dissolved the Assembly. Earlier, PDP had written a letter to the governor presenting the claim to form the government. PDP had sent this letter to the governor’s office through fax. However, in strange circumstances, the Governor did not receive it. Malik later cited technical issues with the Fax machine as the reason. Former Chief Minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti tweeted and informed that this fax has not been received from the Governor’s office nor the governor is answering the phone.
Mufti, while writing a letter to the Governor, had said, “As you know, PDP is the largest party with 29 MLAs in the state assembly. Through media, you may have been informed that Congress and National Conference have agreed to form a government with PDP.”
However, Governor Satyapal Malik ordered the dissolution of the assembly under section 53. Along with this, reports of a revolt in PDP started coming out. Some legislators opposed the formation of the coalition government.
After dissolving the Assembly, Mehbooba Mufti criticised the governor and said that it is unfortunate to dissolve the assembly in such a haste. She said being the biggest party in the state, the governor should have called them. “But he did not do that. The governor should first have found all the options,” Mufti said. According to the information, former Chief Minister of the state Mehbooba Mufti can challenge the decision of the governor to dissolve the Assembly in the Court.
BJP’s dictatorial attitude again came in front: Azad
Reacting on the dissolution of the assembly, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that there were no formal talks among the parties and the meeting of the legislators was called. “BJP does not want any government in Jammu and Kashmir. The dictatorship of BJP has come out again,” Azad said. Azad further said that we want elections in the state.
Omar Abdullah’s tweet
National Conference Chief Omar Abdullah wrote in a tweet that “it can not be coincidental that Mehbooba Mufti was going to present a claim to form the government and the Governor dissolved the assembly.”
Assembly dissolved under Center’s pressure: Saifuddin Soz
Senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz has reacted sharply on the incident. Talking to the media, he said, “Mehbooba Mufti should go to court against the governor’s move at the behest of the Center. Dissolving the Assembly is undemocratic and unconstitutional.”
