NDMA Revokes Disaster Management Act Imposed To Curb Pandemic

New Delhi: The National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday revoked the provisions of Disaster Management Act, which was imposed to curb the Covid-19 Pandemic. The advisories on containment of Covid, including the use of face masks will continue, reads the official order.

 

The government after concluding the overall improvement in the situation and preparedness of government in dealing with the pandemic, NDMA has decided that there may not be any further need to invoke the provisions of the Disaster Management Act for COVID containment measures. Accordingly, after the expiry of the existing MHA Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-1 (A) dated 25 February, 2022, further orders may not be issued by MHA.

However, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MDHFW) advisories on COVID containment measures, including the use of face mask and hand hygiene, will continue.

In the official order the government has stated, over past 24 months, there is a significant development for various aspects of management of the pandemic, such as diagnostics, surveillance, contact tracing, treatment and vaccination, hospital infrastructure and the general public has much higher level of awareness on the COVID appropriate behavior.

States and UTS have also developed their own capacities and systems. They have also implemented their own detailed State/UT specific plans for managing the pandemic. Since past seven weeks there is a decline in the number of cases.

The total caseload in the country stands at 23.913 only and daily positivity rate has declined to 0.28%.

India in past 24 hours recorded 1,778 new coronavirus infections. 

In the last 24 hours, a reduction of 826 cases has been recorded in the active Covid caseload.

The latest 24 hours saw a total of 6,77,218 COVID-19 tests being conducted. India has so far cumulatively conducted over 78.42 crore tests.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease rose to 4,24,73,057, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.20 per cent.

The cumulative doses of in the country so far under the nationwide Covid vaccination drive has exceeded 181.89 crore.
