Mumbai: Highlighting significance of Bhagvat Gita, BJP corporator Yogita Koli on Thursday demanded to recite it in the BMC schools. She met Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Thursday and said she would bring a resolution in this regards in the civic body’s upcoming general meeting.
In a letter wrote to the BMC Mayor, Yogita Koli said that Bhagvat Gita narrates intense Indian philosophy. “The Bhagavad Gita is an ancient text on Indian philosophy. This book is also known as ‘Gitopanishad’ in the last composition of Vedas. It contains the teachings of Lord Krishna to Arjuna about life. On December 25, 5,000 years ago, Lord Krishna recited the Gita to Arjuna. Therefore, it has become a custom in the court to take oath by laying hands on the song. The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important texts in Hindustan and one of the most important texts in human history based on philosophy. Indians consider this scripture to be a holy scripture. Therefore, it has become a custom in the court to take oath by laying hands on the song. The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important texts in Hindustan and one of the most important texts in human history based on philosophy,” she wrote.
Recalling importance of the scripture from the ancient period, Koli said “According to the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna recited the Gita to Arjuna as a guide during the Great War. This scripture is believed to impart supreme knowledge to human beings and guide them on how to live life. Among the common people, Bhagwat-Gita is known as ‘Gita’. The form of this song is a very important guide in Hinduism and a reference book which will be useful for making the philosophy of human life pleasant.”
Koli further wrote that numerous philosophers, scientists and thinkers from different countries and religions of the world have always taken pride in this book and have given Gita as a beacon in the endless ocean of human life. The knowledge in the Gita gives man the highest satisfaction and happiness and also helps him to find the path of salvation, so the Gita is called ‘Mokshashastra’. “Considering this fact, I strongly believes that Bhagwat Gita should be recited in BMC schools. So that the next generation will have the right kind of rites,” she demanded.
Koli met the Mayor on Thursday pressing the demand to present a report to the BMC commissioner in this regards.
