Mumbai: Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar on Friday said that no decision on the weekend curfew would be taken as of now. Earlier the mayor had warned if the cases cross 20,000 there will be a lockdown. Now the mayor has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will look into the covid situation.
The Mumbai Mayor said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a virtual review meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday evening on the Covid situation in Mumbai.”
Mumbai on Thursday reported 20,181 new Covid-19 cases, its highest-ever daily count so far, and four deaths. However, 85 per cent of the fresh Coronavirus cases are asymptomatic, according to details provided by the Public Health Department of Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai.
On Tuesday, the mayor had said that a lockdown might be imposed as per the Union government’s rules.
Talking to reporters at her office in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters, Pednekar on Tuesday suggested that citizens wear triple-layer masks while travelling in public buses and local trains.
She also appealed to them to get vaccinated at the earliest and follow all Covid-19-related standard operating procedures (SOPs).
