Kerala floods: PM Modi to visit flood-affected areas

New Delhi | Prime Minister Narendra Modi today informed that he will be visiting the flood-affected areas of Kerala on Friday evening.

PM Modi also had a telephonic conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan where he discussed the situation of the state and reviewed the rescue operation.

Informing about his visit on Twitter, PM Modi said,”Had a telephone conversation with Kerala CM Shri Pinarayi Vijayan just now. We discussed the flood situation across the state and reviewed rescue operations. Later this evening, I will be heading to Kerala to take stock of the unfortunate situation due to flooding. @CMOKerala”

Earlier the Chief Minister’s office informed that 23 more helicopters will join rescue operations tomorrow and additional 200 more boats will also be part of the rescue operation. Due to constant rains and floods resulting in landslides, the death toll has reached to 94 in Kerala.

According to officials, more than 1.65 lakh people have been lodged in 1,155 relief camps across the state, including 1.12 lakh in Ernakulam district alone. 40 teams of NDRF each a team comprising 20 personnel would join the rescue mission. The Central government has launched a massive rescue operation in order to tackle the increasing flood like situation.

Meanwhile, the MET department has predicted “heavy to very heavy” rain in eight out of 14 districts.
