Delhi recorded 13,336 positive cases and 273 deaths in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 21.67%
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday extended the lockdown, this time a stricter one, in the national capital till May 17 in a bid to break the chain of transmission further. As part of these restrictions, metro services in the city will also be shut. Delhi recorded 13,336 positive cases and 273 deaths in the last 24 hours with a positivity rate of 21.67%

“The positivity rate has gone down but still we can’t afford leniency. We need to extend to lockdown,” Mr Kejriwal said.
While the positivity rate, which stood at 35 per cent in mid-April, has dropped to 23 per cent, doctors say even this is very high and there is a need to completely break the chain of transmission.
For the last several weeks, the city’s been plagued by increasing infections, oxygen, beds, ventilator crisis and is engaged in a bitter tussle with the Centre in the Delhi HC and Supreme Court.

“During the lockdown, we utilised the time to enhance our healthcare infrastructure. The main issue in Delhi was oxygen shortage. With Centre’s help, the condition is better now,” the Chief Minister said.
Kejriwal also spoke of the recently started phase 3 of the vaccination drive. “The vaccination drive has been accelerated in Delhi, however, we face a shortage of vaccine supplies,” he said, adding that the government has asked for support from the Centre and is hopeful that they will receive the same.
India recorded 4,03,738 fresh Covid cases and 4,092 deaths over the last 24 hours, taking the overall case count to 2.22 crore, showed data from the health ministry. This is the fifth time in a week that the country has reported over 4 lakh daily infections.
