PM Modi Discusses Lockdown Extension With CMs, Wears Mask In The Meeting

So far 9 states have demanded the central government to increase lockdown. it is believed that the Central government is likely to extend the Lockdown till April 30

 

New Delhi| The third video conferencing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Chief Ministers has begun. He may discuss extending the lockdown period. Earlier, he had also held video conferencing with the Chief Minister on March 20 and April 2. The 21-day nationwide lockdown, implemented to prevent coronavirus infection, ends on April 14.

In this meeting, PM Modi was seen wearing a mask, so were other Chief Ministers. The aim was to send a message that people should wear masks whenever stepping out. Some states have already made wearing masks in public compulsory.

So far 9 states have demanded the central government to increase lockdown. it is believed that the Central government is likely to extend the Lockdown till April 30 across the country. On Tuesday, April 14, Prime Minister Narendra Modi can address the country for the fourth time regarding Coronavirus. In his second address on March 24, Modi announced a 21-day lockdown.

The central government may make some changes to the lockdown

According to government sources, lockdowns are likely to be extended but with some changes. Restrictions will continue, except for essential services in the states. Schools and colleges and places of worship are also likely to remain closed.

Due to the lockdown, the economy of the country is in distress, some sectors may be exempted from lockdown on condition of adhering to social distancing. At the same time, the RBI in its report has shown the possibility of rapid recovery in the economy amid the Corona crisis. The lockdown has had the biggest impact on the aviation sector. In this case, the government may allow airlines to start flights, but they will have to leave the middle seat vacant in all the classes.

Odisha and Punjab increase lockdown till April 30

Odisha is the first state to extend the lockdown period. It has decided to keep the lockdown until April 30 and the school-college closed till June 17. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also appealed to the Center to keep the flights closed. Besides, Punjab has also increased the curfew till April 30. Karnataka is also preparing to increase lockdown. Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Puducherry are also in favour of increasing lockdown.
