The trumpet for Gujarat Assembly election has been blown. The state will vote in two phases on December 1st and December 5th and the results will be declared on December 8th. The political temperature in the state is rising too. For the last 27 years, Gujarat has been a stronghold of BJP. At the peak of the Hindutva wave following 2002 riots, BJP won 125 seats the highest that the party has won. Since then, BJP has maintained lead in the 182 seat assembly but the seats dropped. In 2012, BJP’s seat tally was the lowest in the last 2 decades. That is it came down to 99, whereas Congress gained from 61 to 77. Traditionally the state has seen fight between these two national parties but this time the Entry of AAP has made it a tri-cornered fight.
Amid the election campaign three opinion polls have come out so far that give us a peek into what is the mood of Gujarat. Let’s talk about these opinion polls, what are the projected seats and vote share for parties and what are the issues that dominate the Gujarat Assembly election according to these surveys.
