Maharashtra-Haryana Assembly elections on October 21, counting on October 24th: CEC Sunil Arora

CEC Sunil Arora said, “Haryana has 1.28 crore voters and 1.3 lakh EVMs will be used. Maharashtra has 8.94 crore voters and 1.8 lakh EVMs will be used.”

 

New Delhi| The Election Commission on Saturday announced the dates for assembly election in the poll-bound states of Maharashtra and Haryana. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said that voting will be held on October 21 in both states in a single phase. The votes will be counted on October 24. With the announcement of assembly elections, the model code of conduct has come into force in both the states.

No Ballot Paper for conducting elections:

There are 288 seats in Maharashtra while there are 90 assembly constituencies in Haryana. Arora says there are 8.94 crore voters in Maharashtra and 1.28 crore voters in Haryana. The CEC said that the EVMs will be used in the elections. He said, “Haryana has 1.28 crore voters and 1.3 lakh EVMs will be used. Maharashtra has 8.94 crore voters and 1.8 lakh EVMs will be used.”

Two special observers for monitoring Election Expenses:

Sunil Arora said, “The Election Commission for Maharashtra has decided to send two special observers, who will only monitor the election expenses. In the past, such observers have been sent during elections in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka. It has also put a limit of Rs 28 lakh for election expense per candidate. He also urged the political parties to denounce the use of plastic in the election campaigning and opt for environment-friendly products.

Bypolls on other seats:

The election commission also announced that bypolls will be conducted on 64 seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Union Territory of Puducherry, on the same date. The result will also come on 24 October.
