Watch: “Bar Covered With Black Tape,” Youth Congress Workers Reach Restaurant Allegedly Owned By Smriti Irani’s Daughter

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers today reached the Silly Souls Cafe and Bar in North Goa’s Assagaon, which is in the eye of storm for allegedly being run by Smriti Irani’s family without valid liquor license. On 21 July, Goa’s Excise Commissioner, Narayan M Gad, issued a show cause notice to Silly Souls Cafe and Bar run by Zoish Irani based on a complaint filed by lawyer Ares Rodrigues. Ares Rodrigues has alleged that “fraudulent and fabricated documents were produced” to obtain a liquor license.

In a video shared by the Indian Youth Congress, Goa Youth Congress President Varad Mardolkar, along with other workers, is seen standing outside the restaurant in question. They show the board of the Silly Souls restaurant and further pull of a black tape imposed on the ‘and bar’ portion on the board which reads: ‘South East Asian & Italian Restaurant’. The Youth Congress workers showed that the board originally carried the word ‘bar’, but was later covered with black tape as controversy erupted over the liquor license.

Mardolkar is seen saying in the video that Smriti Irani yesterday claimed that her daughter does not run any bar but it was clearly visible from the board that it was a bar. “Just by imposing black tape on ‘bar’, you will not be able to hide the truth. They have tried to hide the truth by putting up black tape on bar. Smriti Irani should answer not only to Goans but also to people across the country. A union minister who talks about values should resign and face the investigation for this act. ”

On Saturday, Smriti Irani slammed the congress by saying that her daughter is being targeted because she was vocal on Sonia and Rahul Gandhi’s “Rs.5,000-crore loot” in the National Herald case.

She said that her daughter is 18 years old, a first-year college student and does not run any bar. She dared the opposition party to show any proof of her daughter’s wrongdoing.

“My daughter’s fault is that her mother holds a press conference on the loot of ₹5,000 crores by Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Her fault is that her mother fought against Rahul Gandhi in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls,” the BJP MP said.
