According to an analysis in Bengaluru, two-wheeler riders accounted for 70% of road accident fatalities in the city. The cause of these accidents is primarily non-usage or improper use of helmets. Traffic police department data showed a 10-year high in fatal accidents in 2023, with 909 deaths in 880 accidents. In comparison, 2022 had 772 deaths in 752 accidents, while the number of accidents increased from 3,822 to 5,004 in 2023.
