China: Landslide In Mountainous Region Buries 44 People

Early Monday, a landslide hit the mountainous Yunnan province in southwestern China, burying 44 people and prompting the evacuation of 200 others. The disaster occurred in Liangshui village, under Tangfang town in Zhenxiong County, just before 6 am. Rescue efforts are ongoing to locate victims in 18 houses. No deaths or injuries have been reported, and the cause of the landslide is unknown. Photos suggest snow on the ground at the scene.
