Calcutta HC Restrains Mamata Banerjee On Making Defamatory Remarks Against Governor

The Calcutta High Court today has restrained West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from making defamatory remarks against Governor CV Ananda Bose until August 14, 2024. The court emphasized that freedom of speech is “not an unfettered right” to tarnish someone’s reputation. Banerjee’s lawyer intends to challenge the order, asserting that her comments were fair and of public interest.
