Aamir Khan Faces Flak After Meeting Turkish First Lady

The renowned actor has attracted more heat after he met Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan on an official visit in Istanbul.

Actor Aamir Khan recently traveled to Turkey with his crew to finish the shooting for his upcoming film Laal Singh Chaddha. The images of Aamir meeting his fans and obliging for selfies amid the coronavirus pandemic were going viral on social media. Now the renowned actor has attracted more heat after he met Turkish First Lady Emine Erdogan on an official visit in Istanbul.

“I had the great pleasure of meeting @aamir_khan, the world-renowned Indian actor, filmmaker, and director, in Istanbul. I was happy to learn that Aamir decided to wrap up the shooting of his latest movie ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ in different parts of Turkey. I look forward to it!” Emine posted on Twitter after the meeting. She also attached some pictures of their meeting.

However, many on the internet thought that amid strained ties between India and turkey, it was unwise on behalf of Aamir to hold an official meet with the Turkish First Lady. In last several months, India-Turkey ties have deteriorated,  particularly after Article 370 was scrapped in Kashmir last year. Turkey sides with Pakistan on the issue of Kashmir, reported the Print.

Removal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir has not contributed to peace and stability in the region, a Turkish foreign minister said recently.

One Twitter user wrote, “#AamirKhan can go to Turkey and meet Emine #Erdogan, wife of Recep who openly challenges India’s sovereignty from Pak’s parliament ! But won’t attend Shalom India fest in Mumbai itself, where Netanyahu and Modi were present too.”

Another wrote, “Once Aamir Khan refused to meet India’s friend Israel’s PM. Today He is meeting Anti Ind Erdogan As we all know Turkey opposed abrogation of Article 370. Openly support Pak Choose your heroes wisely.”
