The recipients of Covishield largely include Indians and citizens of low- and middle-income countries who were immunized with vaccines distributed by the WHO co-sponsored COVAX initiative.
Covishield, manufactured by Pune’s Serum Institute Of India (SII) has been excluded from the list of vaccines eligible for the European Union’s (EU) ‘Green Pass’ despite WHO listing. SII chief Adar Poonawalla on Monday said that he hopes to resolve the matter soon.
“I realize that a lot of Indians who have taken Covishield are facing issues with travel to the E.U., I assure everyone, I have taken this up at the highest levels and hope to resolve this matter soon, both with regulators and at a diplomatic level with countries,” he said.

Green Pass, EU’s vaccine passport, which would be available from July 1 onwards, can be used for unrestricted movement in all EU member states for business and tourism purposes. The pass would be granted to those who have been inoculated with any of the vaccines that have been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
