Islamabad: In a notification issued on late Sunday, the Pakistan government stated that Imran Khan no longer holds the position of prime minister.
Signed by Additional Secretary Eazaz A. Dar, the notification read: “Consequent upon dissolution of the National Assembly by the President of Pakistan, in terms of Article 58(1) read with Article 48(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistanā¦ Mr Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi ceased to hold the Office of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, with immediate effect.”
Imran Khan, after this notification, will not be eligible to issue any order in the country.
The Pakistani National Assembly today witnessed unprecedented chaos as Deputy Speaker rejected the No-confidence motion against Khan citing ‘national security’. Khan, on the other hand, asked the President to dissolve assemblies and announce fresh polls.
The opposition, protesting inside the parliament, said it will go to the supreme court against the “unconstitutional” process. According to reports, the apex court of Pakistan has taken a suo motu cognizance of the Sunday’s happenings in Pakistan parliament.
This notification by the Pakistani government is yet another twist in the political slugfest which began after the opposition moved a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. Khan, in a desperate attempt to save power, has blamed ‘foreign hand’ behind the conspiracy to oust him.
