India-China Face-Off: Foreign Ministers Agree On 5-Point Formula To Keep Peace At LAC

While talks between the army officers of the the two countries were going on, China tried to infiltrate for the second time which again was failed by Indian Army.

Amid fresh tension in Ladakh, a 5-point plan has been agreed upon to resolve the India-China dispute. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Moscow on Thursday evening. Both have gone to Moscow to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement on Friday morning and detailed the talks of the foreign ministers.

Following 5 points have been agreed upon

1. The current situation at the border areas is not in anyone’s interest. The soldiers of both the countries should continue to hold fast disengagement (removal of troops from disputed areas). Tension should be reduced by keeping distance from each other.

2. Guidance should be taken from the first agreement between the leaders of the two countries to take the relationship forward. There should not be tension because of differences.

3. Both countries should abide by all existing agreements and protocols in border matters. Keeping peace in the border areas and both countries’ army should avoid such action, which is likely to spoil the atmosphere.

4. As soon as the situation on the border improves, both countries should work fast, so that new measures can be taken to maintain peace and increase mutual trust.

5. Negotiations will continue through Special Representative (SR) mechanisms. Working Mechanism for Consultation and Co-ordination (WMCC) meetings will also continue.

Tensions have been building between India and China in eastern Ladakh since May, but the situation worsened due to China’s infiltration attempt on the night of 29-30 August. Chinese troops tried to capture the hill at the southern end of Pangong Lake, which was thwarted by Indian soldiers. After this there was a round of talks between the army officers of the two countries, but in the meantime, China tried to infiltrate for the second time which again was failed by Indian Army.
