The Western media was completely shaken by the shocking revelation about the misuse of Facebook data by a data mining firm called Cambridge Analytica. The firm is also said to be the one which helped the American President Donald Trump in his Presidential campaign during elections.
Reportedly, in what can be considered as the biggest data breach, the Cambridge Analytica used as much as 50 million Facebook user information in an unauthorised manner. The Facebook after learning the information had suspended Cambridge Analytica’s account from the social media site.
On Tuesday, Facebook issued a statement saying that the firm was outraged by deceiving techniques used by Cambridge Analytica to illegally harvest the data of 50 million users. Apparently, it is believed that the firm used the data to spread its client’s propaganda during election campaigns.
The statement issued by Facebook also said that the Britain-based firm violated the terms and conditions of the social media site
“The entire company is outraged we were deceived. We are committed to vigorously enforcing our policies to protect people’s information and will take whatever steps are required to see that this happens,” the statement said.
The statement also noted that the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and COO Sheryl Sandberg are working to devise a future course of action.
