Washington: Senior US senator Lindsey Graham, in a televised interview on Thursday, called for โsomebody in Russiaโ to assassinate the President Vladimir Putin, after Moscowโs invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking with the Fox News TV host Sean Hannity, the senator said, โHow does this end? Somebody in Russia has to step up to the plateโฆ and take this guy out.โ
Later on in a series of tweets, he repeated his calls and said, โthe only people who can fix this are the Russian people.โ
Referring to one of the Roman rulers Julius Caesarโs assassins, he questions โIs there a Brutus in Russia?โ
He wondered the existence of โa more successful Colonel Stauffenbergโ in Russian Army, mentioning about a German officer whose bomb failed to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944.
โYou would be doing your country โ and the world โ a great service,โ he added.
Senator earlier in the day had introduced a resolution condemning the Russian president and his military commanders for committing โwar crimesโ and โcrimes against humanity.โ
Ukraine has said that at least 350 civilians had been killed until now since Putin has launched attack on Ukraine, and over one million have fled the country.
Moscow claims it does not target civilian areas, despite widespread evidence to the contrary.
