Antigua PM said that they did not know that the Mehul Choksi is a fraud. If they knew, he would not have been granted citizenship.
New Delhi| Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Browne said on Thursday that fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi would be deported to India after all the petitions are settled. Right now our government cannot do anything because the matter is in court. He said that he is a fraudulent person and the country is of no use to him.
Browne said in a conversation with DD News, “We are a law-abiding country. Criminals also have to complete legal procedures. He has filed several petitions. We cannot do anything until his petitions are settled.” The Prime Minister also said that Indian officials are free to interrogate him. But, vigilance also wants to join the inquiry. They did not know that the Choksi is a fraud. If he knew, he would not have been granted citizenship.
Mehul Choksi is accused of a Rs 13700 crore PNB scam. The scandal was revealed in February last year. Mehul had fled abroad before that. He had acquired citizenship in January 2018 under the Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP) of Antigua and Barbuda.
