“People are dying every minute from Coronavirus. The situation may worsen if we do not unite early,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
Geneva| The World Health Organization (WHO) has appealed to all countries to stand united against the spread of coronavirus spread around the world. US President Donald Trump had accused the WHO of being biased towards China. On Wednesday, he again said that the WHO should have issued a warning about the epidemic at the right time. Trump has threatened to stop US funding to the organization.
Responding to this, WHO chief Tedros Ghebreyesus said that the politicization of the epidemic would lead to differences. “This is a new virus and it changed the world in 100 days. Please stop the politics going on regarding Coronavirus. If you want to win then don’t waste time accusing each other. It is like playing with fire,” he said.

“At this time, we should not waste time in finding each other’s deficiencies. If you want to see more deaths, then you can do so. People are dying every minute from Coronavirus. The situation may worsen if we do not unite early. We still do not know much about Coronavirus. This is a new virus. We have no idea how it will behave going forward. So our unity is more important than ever,” he said in a press conference.
Ghebreyesus said that he received death threats during the ongoing fight against Coronavirus. On one question, he said, “I personally don’t care about being targeted. In the last three months, I have been called many abuses. I was called a negro and black. Even threatened to kill. I did not respond. This threat was given by someone from Taiwan. Instead of taking action, Taiwan officials started criticizing me. I am proud to be black.”
