Canadian MP of Indian origin, Chandra Arya, spoke in his mother tongue Kannada in the Canadian Parliament on Thursday.
“I spoke in my mother tongue (first language) Kannada in the Canadian parliament. This beautiful language has a long history and is spoken by about 50 million people. This is the first time Kannada is spoken in any parliament in the world outside of India”.Chandra wrote tweeting his video of speaking in the parliament.

Arya,orignally from Tumakuru district in Karnataka, was re-elected from the Liberal Party of Canada in the 2019 federal election. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Ramanagara and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Dharwad in Karnataka.
Meanwhile Narendra Modi today afternoon in his virtual address to party members on the inaugural day of the two-day national meeting of BJP office-bearers said “In the past few days, we have seen that attempts are being made to spark controversies on the basis of languages. The BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) sees a reflection of Indian culture in every regional language and considers them worth worshipping… It is a link to the country’s better future.”
