WHO Team Says Coronavirus Transmitted From Bats To Humans, Not Leaked From Wuhan Lab In China

While the first outbreak of the virus was reported in China and the country was accused of suppressing the information, China denied any role.

The WHO team on a fact-finding mission regarding the origins of Coronavirus spread has made a big claim. The team was finding whether the virus originated in the Wuhan lab in China or not. WHO experts say that the virus may have been transmitted from bats to humans via another animal (intermediary). Experts have denied that the virus was leaked from the lab in Wuhan.

Claims on virus origin and WHO experts’ opinion

It was last year, as the virus cases grew in the US, that former US President Donald Trump opened a front against China claiming that the virus leaked from Wuhan’s lab. This sparked a worldwide debate over the origin of the virus. WHO experts have, however, dismissed the claim.

While the first outbreak of the virus was reported in China and the country was accused of suppressing the information, China denied any role. In fact, it claimed that the virus did not originate in the country and came into the country from imported frozen food. The experts too did not rule out this possibility but said that there were very few chances for it.

WHO said – “Need more study on virus origin”

However, the team of experts has not given any firm answer as to how the virus has reached humans. A detailed report will also be released on Tuesday. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyses said that international experts will hold press conferences to explain what came out in their investigation. The experts’ team said that further study is needed regarding the origin of this epidemic.

Coronavirus has killed 27 lakh people worldwide in 15 months. Last year governments across the world had to undergo a total lockdown because of this transition. The economy of countries around the world, including India, was severely damaged due to the lockdown.

China objected to the WHO investigation

China was accused of spreading Coronavirus from Wuhan’s lab around the world. The WHO then sent a team of experts to China for investigation. However, it objected to this. Due to this, the report of experts was delayed. The investigation team also had problems getting an entry in Wuhan. This team reached Wuhan on 14 January this year.
