WHO Team To Investigate Coronavirus Origin In China Six Months After The Outbreak

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyeses said that understanding the virus, including how it originated will help us fight the pandemic better.

 

Geneva| World Health Organization on Monday said that it will sed a team to China to find out more about the origin of Novel Coronavirus. The decision of the UN Health Agency comes six months after the virus was first found in the Chinese city of Wuhan. The WHO warned that amidst the atmosphere of global division and politicisation of Coronavirus, the worst was yet to come. It also warned that the pandemic was far from over.

As the calls for investigation into China’s wet market from where the virus is believed to have originated grew, WHO has been pressing China to invite its team of experts to help investigate the animal origins of Coronavirus.

Globally coronavirus cases have touched 1,04,13,558 mark whereas half a million people across the globe have died due to COVID-19. The US remains the worst affected country due to the pandemic with 26,81,811 cases and over 1 Lakh deaths. it is followed by Brazil, Russia and India.

Speaking about the rising death toll, WHO Chief said that this could have been prevented if we had used the tools at hand better. “The critical question that all countries will face in the coming months is how to live with this virus. That is the new normal,” Tedros said.
