Jagdeep Dhankhar, with 74% of the total valid votes, defeated joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva.

Mumbai: Jagdeep Dhankhar¬†was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on Thursday, he was nominated by the¬†ruling¬†BJP-led NDA for the country’s second-highest constitutional¬†post and was¬†sworn in¬†by President¬†Draupadi¬†Murmu,¬†who¬†last¬†month¬†became the country’s fifteenth and second female¬†president.¬†Dhankhar today took oath¬†at Rashtrapati¬†Bhavan.

Prime¬†Minister Narendra Modi and Dhankhar’s¬†predecessor, Mr.¬†Venkaiah¬†Naidu,¬†were among the dignitaries present at the¬†ceremony.

Dhankhar was elected¬†vice president¬†on August 6. He defeated Margaret Alva¬†of the opposition and emerged victorious. The¬†BJP-led NDA candidate¬†comfortably¬†won the election with 528 votes¬†to¬†Alva’s 182. The¬†vice president¬†is also the¬†office chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Jagdeep Dhankhar reached 74.36%. He has the highest profit margin in the last six presidential elections since 1997.
