Jagdeep Dhankhar, with 74% of the total valid votes, defeated joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva.

Mumbai: Jagdeep Dhankhar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President of India on Thursday, he was nominated by the ruling BJP-led NDA for the country’s second-highest constitutional post and was sworn in by President Draupadi Murmu, who last month became the country’s fifteenth and second female president. Dhankhar today took oath at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Dhankhar’s predecessor, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony.

Dhankhar was elected vice president on August 6. He defeated Margaret Alva of the opposition and emerged victorious. The BJP-led NDA candidate comfortably won the election with 528 votes to Alva’s 182. The vice president is also the office chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

Jagdeep Dhankhar reached 74.36%. He has the highest profit margin in the last six presidential elections since 1997.
