A crack that developed on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway has slowed down traffic on the road.

Mumbai: Officials launched rapid repairs as a 15-foot-long and 2-foot-wide section of the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway caved in, creating a massive sinkhole.

Police officers claimed that although the event on Friday caused severe traffic congestion, this morning’s traffic flow was normal.

“The road portion caved in near Sector 96 where work for an underpass was being carried out. It was on the carriageway while one moves from Noida towards Greater Noida. The repair work on it had started on Friday itself, leading to traffic congestion,” an official said.

Press Trust of India was informed by a traffic police official this morning that the road had “smooth vehicle flow and was free of congestion.”

On weekdays, thousands of vehicles travel along the 27-kilometer Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. On Saturdays and Sundays, the workload is much reduced, according to officials.

The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is a six-lane highway connecting Noida in Uttar Pradesh to Greater Noida. It was built at a cost of approximately Rs 400 crore.
