Polling agent in Faridabad arrested for influencing voters

Faridabad | A polling agent was arrested in Faridabad after he was found influencing the voters in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha polls yesterday.

A video emerged on social media which shows a man in blue T-shirt going up to the polling booth as a woman gets ready to cast her vote.

He appears to press a button on the EVM machine or pointing to a party symbol and then promptly returns to his seat. The man repeats the act with two other women voters.

Several people tagged the Election Commission handle on Twitter, the video soon going viral.

Election commissioner Ashok Lavasa took prompt action against the agent and announced his arrest on Twitter, “The person in the video is the Polling agent who has been arrested in the afternoon itself. FIR lodged. He was trying to effect at least 3 lady voters. Observer & ARO with teams visited the booth at Asawati in Prithala constituency. He is satisfied that voting was never vitiated”.

Ashok Lavasa said after receiving the full report action will be taken against those found wanting in their duty.

Haryana recorded a 69.50% voter turnout.

All 10 seats in Haryana went to polls on May 13. Results will be declared on May 23.
