Indian General Elections, the voting process celebrating India’s democracy- the world’s largest democracy began yesterday. As many as 91 constituencies out of 543 went for polling. A total of 14.21 crore electors in phase 1 exercised their right to vote except these fellow Dalit citizens. Yes… two Dalit citizensRam Prasad and Rani Gautam did not cast their votes yesterday. They allege that they were humiliated by the Election Commission officials and were not allowed to cast their vote. The incident happened in Kairana constituency’s Shamli Naya Bazaar in Uttar Pradesh.
The voters said they were not allowed to cast the vote despite their names being present in the voter’s list. One of them while narrating the incident to a reporter broke down. He also alleged that he was not allowed to vote because he is a Dalit.
