Vijay Babu, the actor-producer accused of sexually abusing a woman, has resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists’ executive committee (AMMA).
To rescue the organization from ‘disgrace,’ the actor will stay away from the organization’s Executive Committee until he is found innocent in the sexual assault case.
“Vijay Babu has sent a letter saying that he did not want to bring disgrace to the organization of which he is an Executive Committee member amid the allegations levelled against him. He would stay away from the Executive Committee for the time being until his innocence is proved. His letter (request) was discussed by AMMA and it has been approved,” says the official statement of AMMA released by general secretary Edavela Babu.
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court turned down Vijay Babu’s request for anticipatory bail in the sexual assault case on Friday.
Vijay Babu said in his anticipatory bail petition that the actor who filed the charge against him is attempting to blackmail him.
The case was filed by Ernakulam South Police in response to a woman’s allegation. The complaint was received on April 22, according to the police.
Vijay Babu allegedly sexually abused the plaintiff in a Kochi flat, according to the complaint. According to the complaint, the accused committed the offense more than once.
According to the allegation, Mr Babu committed the crime under the guise of providing the women movie roles.
On Vijay Babu’s accusation, Ernakulam South Police filed a sexual assault case against him earlier this week. Following that, authorities filed a second charge against him for revealing the complainant’s identify on Facebook.
Earlier, the police also registered another case against him for disclosing the identity of the complainant through Facebook live via his official page.
