Assault Case: Jignesh Mevani To Move Fresh Bail Today

Bhavnagar: Gujaratโ€™s independent MLA Jignesh Mevani, will today move a fresh bail plea. First he was arrested for tweeting objectionable tweets Prime Minister Narendra Modi and after getting bail he was again arrested by Assam Police in a case of assault and molestation of a woman police constable.

The Congress will stage a sit-in-strike against the arrest of Mevani in all 34 districts today. PM Modi would visit Assam to launch and lay foundation stones of a cluster of projects worth several hundred crores.

After his bail petition was rejected by Barpetaโ€™s Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), on Tuesday he was sent to five days police custody.

The Gujarat MLA was arrested soon after the CJMโ€™s court in Kokrajhar district granted him bail on Monday. He was granted bail six days after he was arrested by Assam police from his home state in Gujarat for tweeting objectionable tweets against PM Modi.

He was first arrested on April 20 in connection with an โ€œobjectionableโ€ tweet against the Prime Minister posted on April 18. Mevani was flown to Guwahati the next day and then taken to Kokrajhar by road.
