Big Relief For Tajinder Bagga, Punjab Canโ€™t Be Arrested Till July 5

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court granted Tajinder Bagga a major victory on Tuesday, according to news agency ANI, after a case was filed against him for allegedly threatening Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The 36-year-old cannot be arrested until July 5, according to the court.

Baggaโ€™s arrest by the Punjab Police last week from his West Delhi residence sparked a political storm, with the Delhi and Haryana police intervening while he was being transported to Mohali. The Punjab Police have been charged with kidnapping by the Delhi Police. In the midst of all the excitement, he was released within hours.

The BJP attacked Punjabโ€™s ruling AAP government, calling it a โ€œpolitical vendetta.โ€ The AAP, on the other hand, said that Bagga was arrested because he refused to cooperate with the investigation into the case against him.

In a midnight hearing on Saturday, the high court postponed his arrest until Tuesday after a municipal court in Mohali issued an arrest warrant against him.

On April 1, the BJP politician was charged with uttering offensive words, fostering hatred, and criminal intimidation following a complaint by AAP leader Sunny Ahluwalia, a Mohali resident.

Bagga has also filed an appeal with a Delhi court, requesting that the Delhi Police โ€œexpand and reinforceโ€ his security and โ€œrelease his and his fatherโ€™s telephones.โ€
