BJP Demands Implementation Of National Hawker’s Policy, Or Will Protest Against BMC & Mayor

Mumbai: Just Before The BMC elections BJP is targeting at the BMC which is led by the Shiv Sena, amid the issue of non implementation of Hawker’s policy in Mumbai. In the letter to Mumbai mayor by BJP leader Rajhans Singh, gives warning to Mayor to implement it within 8 days.

He wrote, “In 2014 Center has given its nod to implement national Hawker’s policy but since then BMC has failed to implement it. State Govt in 2016 -2017 had prepared a plan on the same line but BMC again didn’t implement it making this issue more critical. It is nothing but injustice to lakhs of ‘Uattar Bhartiy’ people who contribute for the development of city.” Said Rajhans Singh.

In 2014, BMC had conducted a survey of 1,28,443 hawkers. BMC had got almost 99,435 proposals from 24 wards. They formed a committee for scrutinizing the applications which they had received. After scrutinizing the said committee had approved approximately 15,361 applicants and decided to give them certificates.

The said committee had given approval for 30,832 places over 400 roads in the city, but no effective implementation has happened till date.

Further Singh alleged that BMC had not distributed certificates. He claims, “BMC had not distributed any certificates to eligible hawkers and that’s why those 30 thousand places are still vacant. BMC is providing wrong information to Mumbaikar all these 15 thousand eligible hawker are 50 years old and not new one.”

Further he leveled that the implementation of this policy has been deliberately delayed by the BMC. Now they are awaited for the state government’s suggestion but Shiv Sena Party is in power at state and BMC the why there is a delay in taking decision?

He said, “I feel BMC officers and Party in power are having glove in hand and don’t want to implement it. Because if this policy gets implemented then BMC will get huge revenue from licenses but now that money is going in who’s pockets it needs to be investigated. Further it is plan of BMC not to implement it as BMC is going to distribute the food truck licenses which means again Hawkers who are waiting for this policy will have to face burnt of it.”

Rajhans warned Mayor to implement this policy within 8 days or else BJP party and its leaders will protest against BMC.
