Cops Appointed For Karnataka CM’s Security, Held Extorting Money From Drug Peddlers

Bengaluru: Two cops who were deputed for security at Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s private residence have been held for trying to extort money from the drug peddlers. Head constable Shiva Kumar and constable Santosh Naukar attached to the Koramangala police station were allegedly demanding money from drug peddlers in return for not booking cases.

The constables have said that they have caught the group of peddlers, on January 13, as they had to report to security duty at Chief Minister’s house that day, they brought them to R T Nagar, where Bommai’s private residence is located, official sources said.

They said that in the evening they have received an alert from the police control room. A citizen about suspicious activity in an autorickshaw, parked near the Chief Minister’s residence had a complaint to the police.

When the police on duty, rushed to the spot, they caught the constables speaking to two others in the three-wheeler. While the two constables claimed that they were questioning the other two on receiving information that they were drug peddlers, the latter who was accused of peddling alleged that the men in uniform were demanding money from them to let them go.

After the inquiry, the constables were suspended and arrested along with the two men, and ganja was recovered from them.

On the matter, meanwhile, the Congress General Secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala questioned whether is BJP Govt endangering the present & future of youth. He questions if CM is trying to escape from his responsibilities. Taking to Twitter he wrote, “If CM’s security will be drug peddling, who’ll catch or punish the Drug mafia? If the drugs trade is being run under CM’s nose (his residence), who’ll bell the cat? BJP Govt is endangering the present & future of a youth? Can CM Bommai escape responsibility?”
