ED Seizes Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik’s Assets Over Money Laundering Case

Mumbai: On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate attached multiple assets of jailed Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik. The central agency took the action in the case related to runaway gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his underworld gang. The Maharashtra minister has been booked under anti-money laundering law.

In a statement, the probe agency said that that it has issued a provisional order attaching properties belonging to “Mohammed Nawab Mohammed Islam Malik alias Nawab Malik, his family members, Solidus Investments Pvt. Ltd. and Malik Infrastructure under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).” Goawala compound and a commercial unit in Mumbai’s suburban Kurla (West), a 147.79-acre agricultural land located in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, three flats in Kurla (West) and two residential flats in Bandra (West) are the properties of Malik seized by ED.

In related development, the Supreme Court has agreed to consider list of hearing Malik’s appeal of immediate release from prison in this money laundering case.

In February Malik was arrested by ED in money laundering case registered against Ibrahim and others.

After studying an FIR of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in February, the case was filed. NIA had booked Ibrahim and other members of his gang like Anees Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel, Javed Chikna and Tiger Memon.

“After leaving India, Dawood Ibrahim began supervising his criminal activities in India through close accomplices such as Haseena Parkar (Dawood’s sister) and others, according to the NIA’s FIR.” According to the ED, Nawab Malik “usurped” a prime property of Mrs Munira Plumber through Solidus Investments Pvt. Ltd., a firm owned by Nawab Malik’s family members and controlled by Nawab Malik, with active connivance of members of the D-gang (Dawood Ibrahim gang), including Haseena Parkar.

The ED alleged that for usurping this property, Haseena Parkar and Nawab Malik worked together and executed several legal documents to put a facade of genuinity for this criminal act.

The property belonging to Plumber and her mother Mariyambai had been taken over illegally by Solidus Investments Private Limited and Haseena Parkar, Sardar Shahvali Khan, Salim Patel. Nawab Malik illegally usurped illegally property/proceeds of crime that is a three acre prime land with building/structure etc. at Goawala Compound, Kurla (West) in Mumbai, it said.
