โ€œEnsure Affidavits Are Filed In Court Before Circulating In Mediaโ€: CJI Tells Centre

The judges read about the affidavits of the Ministry in the press before they are filed in the Court, CJI NV Ramana said on Monday, and asked the Additional Solicitor General to ensure that the affidavit is filed first in the Court before circulation to the media, the LiveLaw reported.

CJI Ramana, elaborating his concern, said his PRO shows the reports about the affidavits in the morning papers though they are yet to be filed in Court.

The CJI, addressing ASG KM Nataraj, said: โ€œPlease circulate the affidavit. We read affidavits in media only. Today I received their affidavit in court but every morning my PRO has shown me the affidavit( in media)โ€.

The ASG, responding to the concern, assured the bench that โ€œit will not happen from the Unionโ€™s sideโ€.

A Bench comprising CJI NV Ramana, Justice Krishna Murari and Justice Hima Kohli was considering a batch of applications seeking lifting of iron ore export. The Bench asked the Ministry of Steel to clarify if sufficient iron ore is available in the domestic market and if export of the mined material should be permitted.
